Karin Hofmans-Lange
Karin has studied and worked in different countries, gaining a variety of experience in the Visual Arts. She was first introduced to Life Drawing in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, after which, in 1987, Karin started studying Visual Communications at the well known Muthesius Academy, in Kiel, Northern Germany. For her fourth year she switched to the Faculty of Design at the University for Applied Sciences in Muenster. While there, Karin majored in Illustration, gaining a B.A. in Communication Design.

In 1992 Karin emigrated to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She worked there as an illustrator, and became a member of the Dutch Club of Illustrators, the N.I.C. In 2002 Karin immigrated to Christchurch, NZ. She has been living here since with her young family in the suburb of Murray Aynsley and works in ‘her workspace’ from home. Karin has a vivid interest in the human figure. She seeks to incorporate into her paintings her illustrative style with a balance between humor, color and proportion, while maintaining the ‘less is more’ approach.

Her work is sometimes ironic, particularly with regards to human interaction, but she does create other paintings of a more serious nature. These show thought and emotion and might be telling a story about herself or her subject. Karin has, since the end of 2007, very successfully been selling her paintings mainly privately; as well as through organized auctions, galleries, and cafés. In 2008 and the beginning of 2009 she has exhibited several times in group shows in the Christchurch Arts Centre. One can currently see some of her work ‘in the flesh’ at ‘Look Gallery’ in Redcliffs. http://www.lookgallery.co.nz/
